I applied for the new pan number and I got it in 10 mins.

But before that ....be sure to keep your aadhar card and phone number with you.
Aadhar number to feed the same and phone number as you will get an OTP
STEP BY STEP PROCESS TO GET NEW PAN NUMBER
STEP 1.
GO to the website
https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-PAN/index.html"
STEP 2
On this website....you can see the image GET NEW PAN
Click on that
STEP 3
Once you click on that.....a new page opens wherein it asks for your Aadhar number
give your aadhar number and the CAPTCHA code
once this is given....you will get an OTP
Of course, it goes without saying that your mobile number MUST be linked with your Aadhar for the OTP, else you will not get the OTP
STEP 4.
You will receive the OTP...
Submit this OTP in the text box provided
STEP 5.
Once you submit, an acknowledgment number is generated.
Keep this number safely for your future reference
STEP 6.
You will get an acknowledgment number on your mobile and email
STEP 7
Wait for 10 mins
STEP 8
Yes.....Your PAN NUMBER is generated and ready to download
STEP 9
Go to the link again
https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
STEP 10.
Click on INSTANT PAN THROUGH AADHAR
STEP 11.
Click on CHECK STATUS OF PAN
STEP 12.
Give your Aadhar number in the space provided along with the Captcha Code
STEP 13.
OTP is generated
Submit that OTP number
STEP 14...
Congratulations!
Your PAN number is allotted and ready to be downloaded.
STEP 15.
Once downloaded, give your date of birth or the acknowledgment number given earlier and you can now view your PAN NUMBER.
Congratulations.
Now you are ready to invest in Mutual funds !!!
This Pan Card in the pdf format contains a QR code having your demographic details like your name, date of birth, and your photograph.
The advantage of this instant pan is that you do not need to fill up any details as all data is fetched from your Aadhar. Most importantly, your Aadhar and Pan are automatically interlinked, which is mandatory to file Income Tax.
Under the instant PAN facility, you do not need to fill up a detailed application form as all the data is fetched from Aadhaar. With this, the two identity documents also get interlinked automatically and you can then use them interchangeably according to income tax rules.

This facility of instant PAN number via Aadhar was introduced in the 2020 Budget

Note: The Pan card you get is an E-Pan. For printed pan card, you need to APPLY via NSDL or UTI
